Ryan started out studying music performance in London before moving to Scotland in 2005 continuing as a teacher and performer.
He became interested in guitar making and studied for three years at Glasgow Clyde College (formally Anniesland College) under the experienced makers Bill Kelday and Paul Hyland. There he experimented with making a wide variety of guitars from steel string to classical as well as baritone and crossover guitars. Ryan has recently been lecturing at Glasgow Clyde College in Stringed Instrument Making.
After his studies in guitar making he setup a workshop in Falkirk, Central Scotland. Here he is focused on making the very best classical guitars from the finest materials using traditional methods. He is also available for repair and restoration work.
